Grounding Electrical Systems/Swimming Pools/Spas ~5-hour seminar
This class has been updated to the 2008 Code. This seminar will cover the proper grounding of electrical systems, swimming pools/spas and equipment operating at 600 volts or less. This class qualifies for five (5) hours of continuing education. A 2008 NEC book is required.

  This course utilizes Allen-Bradley software and will cover PLC Electrical Safety, Hardware, Ladder Logic Theory, Programming Instructions: Inputs, Outputs, Bit, Timer & Counters, Math functions, Networks, Troubleshooting and Servicing the PLC System and more . (60 Hours of combined lecture and hands on lab).

Thermal Imaging Technology - Fluke Ti25 Thermal Imager   ~ 12 hours
  *Prerequisites: General Knowledge of computers and word processors. Digital camera operation a plus but not required.
 
In this class you will:
  Learn to operate the Imager/Camera unit.
  Learn to store and transfer data.
  Learn to use the related SmartView software to analyze and report results.
These skills are used for:
  Energy Audits - find missing insulation, hot and cold spots, air infiltration and uneven heating and cooling. Pinpoint problems for immediate results and weatherization.
  Plant maintenance - scan for shorts and hot spots in electrical panels, heating systems, steam traps and equipment bearings and drives. Find problems before a failure.

Solar Panel Design and Installation - Photovoltaics  ~ 30 hours
  Learn about the use of solar panels to generate electricity and heat water.
Solar Panel history, electrical circuits, solar radiation fundamentals, sizing of systems, DC/AC, required wiring, isolated and grid tied systems. Installation of stand alone and roof mounted panels.
Uses Solar Energy International textbook in conjunction with classroom and field exercises. Book included in cost of course.

Green Environment and Green Building Standards   ~ 15 hours
  If you want to learn more about “Green Building,” this course provides instruction in green environment, construction practices, building science and green building LEED rating systems. Endorsed as the preparatory course for the “Green Advantage” Commercial/Residential certification exam. The course is taught by National Center for Construction Education and Research (N.C.C.E.R.) instructor.

Weatherization Techniques I   ~ 15 hours
  Utilizes the Weatherization curriculum furnished by the National Weatherization Assistance Organization. Learn the latest methods and the following skills:
Chicago Blower Door kit - set up and use to test results from repairs and upgrades to buildings and houses.
Caulking and Sealing - proper methods after testing of building and enclosure. Includes sealing around all openings internal and external. New practices of caulking all joints and wall joints are covered.
Window replacements - selection and installation of energy efficient window systems.
Insulation - selection and installation of different types of insulation. Fiberglass, blown and spray insulation.

Weatherization Techniques II   ~ 15 hours
  Utilizes the Weatherization curriculum furnished by the National Weatherization Assistance Organization. Learn latest methods and the following skills:
Whole House as a system - From the attic the the crawl space and all openings in between. The proper green methods of sealing and closure. Proper and improper ventilation and moisture barriers are stressed, both former methods and new techniques.
HVAC loadings and calculations - How much air is moved, in what direction and how many BTU’s are required to heat or cool the environment. Calculate the loss and the savings of any improvements.
Appliances and Energy Star equipment - why change the house and the building if you are leaving the old energy robbing equipment in place? Learn the ratings and the ways to save money with some simple changes or the replacement of the entire HVAC system
